“We make video documentary work / Fabled documentaries / Hyper-real documentaries / Leaking fiction into nonfiction, vice versa / Fantastical depictions of concrete landscapes.”

What can experimental documentaries do in the age of the neural image? Institute for Advanced Studies Filmmaker and Artist in Residence, Yoni Goldstein, will screen selections from a work-in-progress and propose a utopian methodology for speculative / polyphonic documentaries. Goldstein is currently developing a new sci-fi documentary, tentatively titled “A Machine to Live In,” about transcendental architecture in the remote Brazilian hinterlands. He will screen excerpts articulating moments of myth and poetry in the retro-futuristic city of Brasília. Viewers are invited to participate in open conversation and feedback.
