CEU's Visual Studies Platform is organizing a workshop run by artist-in-residence Axel Braun (artist and photographer) open for all CEU students who already use visual media in their academic or personal projects – or who wish to do so in the future. The workshop will provide practical experience, group feedback and discussions as well as individual project support.
For practical reasons the number of participants is restricted. Please read below how to apply.
Brief workshop description:
A workshop for repeated / longterm observation in documentary photography / video.
Spending a longer stretch of time at the same place or with the same person will change your perception of it. A different but equally interesting experience is to return to the same object or subject on a regular basis. A special challenge is to expose yourself repeatedly to a predefined situation.
In the same way, as this method of observation and documentation will help you to deepen your
understanding of a place, person or situation, it will improve your ability to produce and read visuals.
The workshop will provide you with conceptual and technical advice in order to plan a visual project and to produce still or moving images. Furthermore it will be a training to work with visuals and to communicate about them with others. Prior technical knowledge is an advantage but not necessary. The same counts for equipment: if you have your own camera you are encouraged to use it, otherwise your mobile phone camera provides all you need for a simple approach.
The workshop is structured in three sessions:
Friday, April 1, 2016 at 5 p.m. in Nador u. 11, 004
Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 5 p.m. in Nador 9, MB 201
Friday, May 6, 2016 at 3 p.m. in Nador 9, MB 201
Application deadline: March 28, 2016
Please send an informal e-mail about your motivation with brief information about your studies, prior experience in visual work, already existing visual projects (up to 3 PDFs or 10 single image files, the attachment should not exceed 15 MB) and/or your plans for a new project to info@axelbraun.org
The list of participants will be sent out on March 30, 2016.
