Safe Journey Welcome Back is an art book and a collection of photographs dedicated to Polish workers of Icelandic tourism. The publication is an effect of an ethnographic fieldwork Magda Kopanska conducted in Iceland in summer 2024, during which she worked as a night receptionist and used photography to elucidate the work conditions and life of young migrant workers. The project is concerned with the experience of everyday environment and the sense of temporalities of young Poles employed in Icelandic tourism.
The exhibition, which will take place between May 26th and June 20th, is a showcase of a collection of photographs and an art book which conveys her findings with the use of ethnographic fiction written in cooperation with my interlocutors.
The show opening will take place on May 26th at 19:00 at Central European University (Quellenstraße 51 1100 Vienna), on the 3rd floor in the lounge 'A' next to the Sociology and Social Anthropology department. (External visitors are kindly requested to register for the event, by contacting vsp@ceu.edu.)
Magda Kopanska is a 2nd year M.A. student at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, she is presenting her current work as the graduation project.
