Visual Studies Platform at CEU invites applications for a Visiting Faculty in visual theory and methodology with particular emphasis on digital and interactive media as well as interdisciplinary teaching components.

We are looking for an experienced academic with a strong background in theoretical reflection and comparative visual media analysis. The successful candidate will offer a 2-credit MA course (12 weeks, 100 min classroom time) as part of the Visual Theory and Practice curriculum (Fall or Winter 2019/2020) and will contribute to further activities carried out by the Visual Studies Platform. The 2-credit course would incorporate visual and media theory and/or history and theory of new media and web-based technologies. Candidates are asked to identify their strengths and experiences in curriculum development and working with interdisciplinary graduate students in novel ways. They are also expected to contribute to relevant knowledge exchange initiatives with institutional partners outside CEU. The teaching assignment contributes to the core of the Visual Theory and Practice curriculum established by CEU's Visual Studies Platform. VSP is an interdisciplinary initiative designed to explore and propose innovative approaches to research and teaching visual imagery in the humanities and social sciences and foster expertise in this field across the university. Students pursuing the Visual Theory and Practice Advanced Certificate at CEU may be enrolled in any department of the university, with their particular research area having a strong visual component. In 2019/2020 CEU operates as a bi-campus Vienna-Budapest graduate institution. The applicant shall specify if they have preferences about the semester and location of teaching. Qualifications:
Applicants will be expected to provide a portfolio with evidence of:
- a PhD degree or equivalent within visual studies, digital media, new media, media history and theory or a related field
- an internationally-recognized research profile in the field
- minimum three years graduate level teaching experience within visual theory or media studies
